Out in the Cold…

“Brrrr….” I couldn’t control my chattering teeth. They were way out of my control. I looked around at the snow-covered park. “Where could he be? Idiot. If he had told me that he couldn’t be here, I’d at least stayed at home, close to the fireplace, nice and warm. But instead, here I am alone in a park that is white. When he gets here, I swear I’m going to make him regret this.”

Hands wound around me and I knew at once who it was. I opened my mouth to use a few choice words. But my resolve disappeared the moment his hands were completely around me. He was too warm from his run here and I didn’t have the heart to push him away. I pressed into him, absorbing as much heat as I could before I turned to face him. Looking into his dark eyes, I flew to another world, forgetting how wet I was, forgetting how cold I was…….cause it didn’t matter……..I was in my happy place with him.

He looked down into my eyes, smiling. He had a twinkle in his eyes and I knew he was laughing at me. He could see right through me and I knew that he knew that if I hadn’t been so cold, he’d be on the receiving end of several well-aimed smacks.

He leaned down to kiss me on my lips quick.

“Now you tell me why you made me come here in the cold?” I asked, managing to get my mouth to listen to my mind.

He turned me around in his arms, my back to his chest, both of us looking out at the snow-covered park. I could feel his warm breath next to my ear. His warm hands that I knew would always be there to hold me steady. His heart beat slowly calming down to match mine.

“I Love you” he whispered into my ear.

All of a sudden, his hands disappeared from around my waist. I turned around. He was on his knees in front of me. My hands flew up to my mouth, I could believe it.

He pulled out a box from his pocket and opened it…
