The latest talk of the town has been the next film in the list of Mani Ratnam-A.R.Rahman films.
Kaatru Velliyidai starring Karthi and Aditi Rao, I believe, is a movie everyone has to see!
Having said that, let me mention what went wrong with the film.
First things first, it was great to see a female protagonist with a strong role in Mani Ratnam’s film. But, it was sad to see that throughout the film, she was pretty much dissed in public by the ‘guy she loved’. True, maybe that was just the character of the guy, but it was flimsy considering that the only reason given for that was one scene with an equally male chauvinistic father.
For a change, though, the girl stood up for herself every time. And that was heartening to see.
Second, as good looking as we have seen Karthi look, it was truly terrorizing to see his ‘stare’ for his love. Me and my friends were truly wondering when they were going to fall out of his sockets.
Third, and final, while the film is known and famous for the music by A.R.Rahman, seeing the movie, you almost get the feeling that the songs were not best placed through the film.
But having said all that, I must say that this movie is still one of the best. And that’s why I say that everyone must watch it.
Alright, firstly it’s a classic love story between an Air Force Fighter and a Doctor. It’s a good plot with the two falling in love, and then breaking up over a difference of opinion. The Air Force Fighter then gets caught in a neighboring country and is put in jail. He then escapes returning home a hero, still looking for his love every chance he gets. And of course, they find each other in the end.
Other than true plot, the one reason to fall in love with the movie is the cinematography. The film satisfies the Mani Ratnam standard with absolute to die for visuals from Ravi Varman. Every scene, every shot, you can just see how well it has been thought out. You can see how well it’s planned and you can see how truly amazing the visuals are. Trust me, you’ll want a photo shoot for yourself with exactly those shots…well I certainly do…
With amazing visuals and amazing music by ARR, you need to watch the movie at least once. Whether you like the story or not, you’ll like the movie for the music and the visuals.
I’ll give it a 3.5/5.
