Triples (Tamil Web Series), A Review…

A lot of you might have already heard about the latest Tamil rom-com web series on Hotstar, but if you haven’t watched it yet, watch it now!

Having had the chance to watch English rom-com’s in the past, one thing I always missed in Tamil were those light-hearted situations, content, and the screenplay that got you addicted to the show and made you binge-watch the entire thing. Watching “Triples” gave me exactly that and more.

Starring Jai, Vivek Prasanna, Rajkumar, Vani Bhojan, Namita Krishnamurthy, and Madhuri in the lead roles, Triples is an eight-episode series following the story of three friends and the comic turn of events that follow them around.

The comedy follows a lot of Crazy Mohan’s styles that we’ve all come to love along with a lot of resemblances and a throwback to films like Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Panchathantiram, Vasool Raja, and more that make you laugh out loud and enjoy the show.

Admittedly, there are a few places in between that become a little flat and almost a little unengaging. Like for example, I never truly felt it when Ram and Meera were fighting. One of the other drawbacks with the show was that little bit of inconsistency between the episodes and all the flashbacks in between.

However, the cast has done a brilliant job portraying their roles and give us a top-notch sitcom to watch.

Let’s talk about all the technical stuff for a minute though. Written by Balaji Jayaraman, the story is a great and simple narrative with several throwback scenes. What might have been missing here was some more depth into the romantic bits. Direction by Charukesh Sekar as well comes through well in a very neatly directed show. What I found most lacking was in the cinematography. Several of the throwback scenes that happen in the night time or the dark seem almsot a little over exposed and the editing between the throwbacks and the current time line was noto always very smooth. Combined, the package come through pretty well with the story and screenplay lifting it up.

Overall, I enjoyed binge-watching the show, laughing out loud and almost connecting with the characters. I’d recommend watching it and I give it a 4/5!
